It’s that time of year again when we find ourselves approaching the Chinese New Year. Manufacturers will be closing down for the National Holiday. Whilst we cannot currently specify exact dates, we can assume that the majority of manufacturers will be down from 30th January to 7th February 2014.
With regards to your PCB requirements, we ask you to bear this in mind when planning your production schedule or stock evaluation. Previous patterns show that PCB manufacturers become considerably busy in the weeks leading up to and after the holiday.
We would therefore strongly advise you to start making plans NOW for your PCB requirements. ALR operate a number of stockholding solutions which can benefit you during this period.

As the end of a busy year nears, our sales team will be distributing our infamous ALR Wall Planners so you can start planning 2014.
If you have a meeting coming up with one of the ALR team you can expect to receive one… alternatively if you would like one let us know and we’ll be happy to call by – and of course discuss any PCB requirements you may have. The 2014 planner is also available in a smaller PDF version, downloadable from our website, just go to http://www.alrpcbs.co.uk/delivery where the link is displayed.
We’ve highlighted all Chinese holidays for 2014, allowing you to plan ahead and ensure your PCB requirements are ordered on time. Just another useful tool from ALR.
In this month’s Electronics Sourcing Magazine we discuss how our recently installed XRF machine provides added-value to our in-house operations for our customers. Quality Manager, Andy Robinson, contributes to the feature by stating “it is imperative that we offer our customers 100% confidence in the products we supply. This starts are the point of manufacture in China and follows through to the in-house inspection that we carry out. Adding an XRF inspection to every batch of boards we deliver provides assurance to the customer that they have fantastic PCBs”.

Last week we exhibited at the SMART Group table top conference and exhibition. Highlights included a talk by Gareth Jones from Sony UK on the benefits of On-Shoring, whilst we also enjoyed the discussions surrounding youth in the Electronics Industry. It was also interesting to hear from NPL on the topic of Solderless interconnect, and what this means for Electronics Assembly in the future.
Alongside the conference, it was great to meet new and old faces whilst discussing ALR operations and our recent instalment of the XRF 920 Plating Thickness Analysis machine.

We can confirm that we have raised almost £100 for Macmillan Cancer Support as a result of our Macmillan Coffee Morning a few weeks back (the ‘morning’ turned into ‘mornings’ due to an overload of treats!). Thank you to everyone at ALR for baking…and more importantly buying our cakes and donating!
ALR have been raising money for charity this week by holding a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The coffee morning started on Wednesday and is yet to finish (our eager team baked one too many cakes). Jim Rosseter, MD at ALR, has kindly offered to double what we raise for the charity.
We hope to sell the remaining treats today when we can confirm the total amount donated to Macmillan. Whilst the team at ALR love any excuse to do a bit of baking, we are always looking to do our bit where we can. The coffee morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event raising a staggering £15 million in 2012.
The XRF plating thickness analysis machine has been installed here at ALR and is proving to be a real asset to our operations. Quality Manager, Andy Robinson states “Not only does this piece of equipment allow us to further assure overall board quality, it reduces the risk of any unnecessary solderability issues. The X-Strata machine, supplied by Oxford Instruments, allows us to confirm boards supplied are to the customer’s specified requirements. We can even generate reports, and supply these to the customer”. ALR Services Ltd is the only UK PCB distributor to guarantee that all batches of imported PCBs are subject to a surface analysis test.
